Viral Universe More Dangerous For Bullies; A Haven for Victim-Bus Monitor Karen Klein - Page 2
To hear her speak about the incident, Klein appears sanguine. She says that though she held her annoyance inside, she felt like slapping their faces which would have been deemed abusive by her employers and would have resulted in her being fired. Clearly, in school bullying situations, the institution enables bullying because it does little to actively support the victims. The ethic of bullies must be reversed: instead of being "macho," they should be revealed for what they are weak, sick and mentally deranged.
Bullies exist because they know the system offers them impunity and the chance to "look strong." If victims try to fight back, punishment usually falls on the victim along with the shame and humiliation of being labeled the provocateur. That is why during the last decade, especially, numbers of kids terrorized by various gangs of bullies felt there was no way out and they killed themselves.
For an adult bullied by teens, they have to "suck it up and let the kids rip into them," or be placed in a situation where supervisors incorrectly assume "they can't handle the job." The adult comes into such institutional situations with the cards stacked against them. Emotionally disturbed kids know it, and they take advantage of predation whenever they can. You have to be a comedian the likes of a Chris Rock, Jay Leno or Caroline Ray to turn the tables around to where you "get along with them."
The point is, why should the victim have to? The system should have sanctions in place to immediately deal with such kids who are a hazard to themselves and others. Such incidents must be reported and categorized as health issues. The bullies must receive psychological counseling for their intense emotional inner pain and weakness. And adults must be mentored and given sanctions to use against such bullies who should not be able to use the system's lax or non-existent rules against the adult.
If it is strictly teen bullying of teens, their victims must also receive help. But the main initiative should be upon the perpetrators. This is not necessarily "boys will be boys" and a "oh, it's like baby fat; they'll eventually out grow this," situation. Teen terrorists can become criminals. To not look like sissies, the twisted ones act like devils and incite others to suicide? What is that? Very disturbed, criminal behavior on the part of the bully more than the suicide. The suicide is fighting against a four pronged attack from: the system that promotes such behaviors, the bullies, their peers, their parents ineffectualness. The bullies are on the attack and shielded by their crew with the additional support of an incompetent institution, and their group think, fearful fellow teens at the school.Continued on the next page
