The night before The Night Before BlogHer
The counter on the BlogHer Conferences website reads "1 day until BlogHer '08!", but as far as I'm concerned, it's already here. I've followed the updates. I've read the Pre-Conference Guide. I helped pack the swag bags. Helped load them into vans. And finally, tomorrow, the serious fun begins. And starting tomorrow night, this BlogHer virgin will be diving off the deep end, party-hopping from our very own SV Moms Party to the BlogHer Newbie Party to the People's Party.
This night finds me in a flurry of activity, making sure I have everything ready for the next several days. Conference passes, check. Party invitations, check. Childcare, check (thanks, dad). Lodging, check (my own comfy bed). Transportation, check (courtesy of mod*mom, who has organized a GM Hybrid Carpool for us Bay Area bloggers willing to commute up and and Hwy. 101 ). Business cards, check (thanks to MJ, who hooked me up with a set of chic Mommy Cards). Extra tote bag, check (all the better to lug that swag around with). What to wear, check (although strictly speaking, I still haven't decided exactly what I'm putting on — but at least I've narrowed down to three or four outfits).
Hang on, something's missing. Confidence, confidence, now where did I put that confidence? I need to find it, because I need it to answer some pressing questions: Who will I talk to? What if someone asks what my blog is about? How can I not say, "it's just a personal blog" — especially when I compare it to your slick, witty, popular ad-filled blog that generates more hits in a day than mine does in a month? And who's going to want my business card anyway (other than my parents and husband, because it has cute photos of my kids in it)?Continued on the next page
