Social Networks: The Key To A Stress-free Life For Mothers? - Page 2
So do mums with an active social network have a less stressful life?
Probably, but a social network must be kept alive with updates and responses and it is a two- (or many-) way street: you get what you give. The time it takes to be a good citizen in the social network is time that cannot be spent with the family.
Looking into the future, however, there is no doubt that a social network is an investment that cannot be ignored. Predictions are, that in 5 years or so everyone on the planet with access to the internet will be part of one or more social networks.
The future of social networks is one of accelerated change and creativity, which will bring us benefits well beyond our imagination.
Already we are seeing practical cell phone applications that allow you to bring the social network with you. Indian Express mentions smart applications such as ‘Cafemom’, ‘Mom-to-be’, ‘Mom’s Shopping List’, ‘Ask Mom’ and ‘Sit or Squat’, the latter locating the nearest bathroom depending on where you are for the wee ones in need.
While there are still many people who sit on the social network-fence, I expect that the benefits will soon outnumber the disadvantages.
It’s all a matter for mum (and dad) to overcome their fear of having to take on yet ‘another thing they have to keep track of’ and to see social networks for what they really are.
An enormously powerful tool to organise and enable family life.
