BAFTAs 2011 Jewelery Review
The red carpet continues to be a platform for famous star talent to showcase designer dresses, fabulous hair and glittering jewelery. This year’s TV BAFTAs ceremony was no exception and the fact that the ceremony was sponsored by a notable jewelery brand meant the actresses stylishly leading the way down the carpet were wearing only the most desirable jewelery.
The 2011 Philips TV BAFTA Awards saw Carat*, a brand enjoying increasing recognition around the world for its simulated yet realistic man-made ‘diamond’ and gems, acting as the event’s official jewelery partner. Unsurprisingly, this meant a number of nominees and guests wore sparkling accessories by Carat, including ‘This is England ’86’s Vicky McClure (winner of ‘Best Actress’), nominee Juliete Stevenson and ‘Emmerdale’ starlet Amy Nuttal all wore impressive Carat* earrings.
Meanwhile, the trend for statement rings, big earrings and layered looks as witnessed at jewelery awards shows that took place earlier this year continued but to a lesser degree. Comedienne Miranda Hart wore a bold blue ring and an eye-catching diamond-shaped gold necklace, West End star Sheridan Smith turned vamp with black dropper earrings, while face of Links of London Cat Deeley opted for vintage-inspired dangling silver earrings.
The change in season seems to have inspired a change in attitude to accessories though, with seemingly less ‘statement’ choices and a generally more classic approach. ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Lydia Bright wore delicate diamante earrings that contrasted with the brash reputation of the reality show, while Louise Redknapp, Daisy Lowe and ‘X Files’ actress Gillian Anderson let their outfits make the statement, pairing them with subtle earring choices.
With most of the year’s big award ceremonies now done and dusted, it remains to be seen what the stars will choose to wear in 2012. However, for now, the elegance showcased at the TV BAFTAs and Cannes suggests less is more this season.
