Short Film Shot Entirely on iPhone 4
"156 Turns" is a short documentary film about the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb by Seth Schaeffer and Greg Tracy. It's not the most thrilling subject matter unless you happen to be into motorcycle racing, but there's an impressive technical achievement: the entire thing was shot in HD with the brand-new iPhone 4.
The footage has been left purposefully uncorrected to show how things look straight off the device. Of course, they had a little help. The pair used a stabilization system and wide-angle lens adapter called the OWLE Bubo to lend a professional air to the production. And it works! The footage, while not always great, is nevertheless impressive.
But don't expect to shoot your masterpiece with an iPhone just yet. Not unless you plan to spend a lot of time syncing. The crew used eight 32GB iPhones over four days to grab all the footage. It's an exciting use of new technology and I'd love to see it used to empower more citizen journalists.
