VIDEOS: Robbie Bach and Microsoft Kin Mobile Phone Launch
Today Microsoft revealed another part of its mobile phone strategy to gain the hearts and minds of consumers at a launch event in San Francisco. Robbie Bach, President of the Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft kicked off the event and then handed the stage over to a Senior PM on the Premium Mobile Experiences team.
The event was held at Mighty, in the trendy SOMISSPO district of San Francisco, and arriving journalists were greeted with a waffle truck and a light drizzle before the event began. Inside demo stations, mini burgers and corn dogs, and french fries in paper cones supplemented a thirty minute stage presentation that was lean on executives, who often parade across the stage at launch events to take credit for the product innovation. One Verizon executive, John Harrobin, SVP of Digital Media and Marketing, did make a brief appearance endorsing the product, although no one from Sharp was given the chance to offer any remarks.
The videos highlight a number of key messages from the event, notably the focus on social networking and young consumers. Equally noteworthy is the absence of any Xbox messaging, or any leverage from the one brand that has proven Microsoft can make a credible, compelling consumer product.
