VeriSign Publishes Domain Name Stats
Today, VeriSign released its Q1 2010 Domain Name Industry Brief. The brief indicates that yet another 1 million new domain names were registered in the past quarter, bringing the current number of registered names across all top level domains names (TLDs) to 193 million, a 6% increase over Q1 of 2009, but only .6% over Q4 of last year.
In the big two TLDs (that'd be .com and .net), registration grew to 99.3 million names, a 2.7% increase over Q4 of 2009 and 7% over Q1 2009.
The report also mentions the results of a new study by ITIF, a DC think tank. According to that study, one in four people worldwide use the Internet today, and the annual global benefits of e-commerce equals $1.5 trillion, and is expected to grow to more than double that by 2020.
So basically, they're saying this whole Internet thing is a big deal.
