The New and Improved Google Search Features in Gmail Labs
Last April, Google added a search feature in Gmail Labs where users can perform a web search within the Gmail interface. Until now, it was able to do common types of searches, but now Google added the ability to search particular information within the Gmail surface. The popular search features are now part of it such as dictionary definition, spelling corrections, calculations, local search, weather search and news search.
Let's take a closer look at the new features.
Dictionary Definition: Aren't sure of the meaning of a word? Just type a keyword like "define" in English, and you'll see the first definition of the word, with a link to the dictionary where it came from.
Spelling Corrections: If you misspell something in your search, Google’s spell checking software will automatically offer a more common spelling of that word. This is the same type of feature that you use in Google's web search.
Calculations: Type in an arithmetic expression and you'll get the result, and you can even paste that result over to your email. Click the "paste result" option from the pop-up menu which will paste the result of the computation.
Local Search: You can search for a particular local place, or for things near a particular place while writing an out-going email.
Weather Search: To do a weather search, simply type "weather" followed by the city and state, zip code, or city and country and you'll get instant weather results.
