Tablets to make Bigger Impact on IT in 2011
The tablet market is still in its infancy stages, but one has to believe that the various devices will have far reaching impact on information technology as well as how companies do business in 2011.
Regardless of the logo on the device — Blackberry, Apple, Samsung, etc. — tablets can be a true workhorse and complement to the smartphone.
Additionally, as tablets get quicker, hold more storage and have the ability to multi-task, these devices will replace the basic functions of the PC — word processing, web surfing, cloud computing, etc.
With these devices being portable, great on battery power and built on operating systems meant for flexibility, tablets will be less of a headache for IT professionals who are on the front lines of securing networks for malware and user abuse.
Regardless of who wins the tablet race, I think you're going to see more and more of these devices being leveraged in businesses of all sizes — global sales teams to mom and pop shops.
The keys to success in terms of market share will be usability, security, productivity applications and most importantly, the ability to connect to business email networks as well as storage servers.
How do you think the tablet market will shape up in 2011?
