Global NAS Market to Increase Through 2016
The global network-attached storage (NAS) market is predicted to increase at a 21.6 percent annual growth rate through 2016, according to new research by TechNavio. The NAS market is growing because organizations are demanding less expensive, more efficient storage infrastructure due to the explosion of big data.
To handle large flows of data, companies are upgrading their networks to support higher bandwidth and faster data transmission. NAS equipment are also deployed to store the data. Network congestion is being seen as a problem by engineers when some lines with lower bandwidth (i.e., 8 Gbps) interact with other lines that have higher bandwidth (10 Gbps), which causes data bottlenecks.
According to TechNavio’s 54-page report, the increase in digital content in enterprise networks is leading to complications in storage architectures. “Enterprises are adopting various storage technologies and integrating them to obtain an architecture which can support all types of data storage and retrieval.”
According to NETSAS, an Australian enterprise network firm, network software is also playing an important role in business operations and data management. “Relevant data and programs stored in the company’s database should be easily accessible to employees with the right permission,” the company stated on its website. “A poorly managed network can result in inefficient business operations, which do not just affect the employees who use it, but also the consumers who are on the receiving end of the cycle.”
“If you are planning to establish an office network, it is important to recognize the needs of your business first,” according to NETSAS. “There are numerous network solutions software out there, and having a clear idea of your needs will help you arrive at the best decision.”
“With the increasing demand for storage infrastructure, the frequently-accessed data is stored in the SAN [storage area network] architecture and long-term storage is supported over the NAS device. NAS devices are generally being used for timely backup of the storage and to maintain backup to support disaster recovery. The increased adoption of storage mediums and the need for data backup are leading to higher demand for NAS devices,” stated TechNavio’s team.
Last year, industry insiders predicted that the global NAS Market will grow to $7 billion by 2017. “Growth will be primarily driven by the increase in the number of home and small business networks, continued data explosion, and the growing need for data backup and archiving,” according to Global Industry Analysts. “Total data generated worldwide is projected to reach over 3 million petabytes by the year 2020.”
