The New Brother MFC-J6510DW A3 Printer Scanner Copier and Fax All-in-One
Brother's New A3 Printer Scanner Fax MFC Series
We have long associated the Brother printer brand with quality, efficiency and value for money. Is this still the case with their new A3 printer scanner multifunction (MFC) range? We took a look and reviewed the first of three MFC printers in this Brother range, the MFC-J6510DW, to find that Brother are still delivering on their reputation.
Okay, so the MFC-J6510DW all-in-one is on the hefty side, and Brother's styling is perhaps not as nicely 'designed' as HP or Epson. However, remember this is an A3 printer scanner, and if you run a small office, I think you'll agree that looks are secondary to functionality. So let's get stuck in to how it performs.
Firstly, paper is stored in front-loading cartridge drawers – there's only one drawer for the MFC-J6510DW. Two trays are available in the next model up - the MFC-J6710DW, which offers more flexibility and time saving when selecting different print media. Loading paper is a bit fiddly, however, as the trays have to be removed completely and exact paper positioning is important to avoid paper jams.
Setting up the MFC-J6510DW is a breeze and takes about 20 minutes. Its wireless LAN installation is also very straight-forward, and thank goodness for Brother's efficient and straight-down-the-line software. There is no bloatware to be seen anywhere here to clog up your processor, as in some other makes we could mention... er hm, HP...
The 'Control Centre Interface' is fairly intuitive although there is a small learning curve as this interface is a little different from the mainstream. Brother's troubleshooting application is also comprehensive and easy to understand, and the “PaperPort” software is very useful for document and photo correction/manipulation.Continued on the next page
