Nimbuzz Launches Mobile Messaging App for Windows Phone 8
Nimbuzz, who recently surpassed the 150 million worldwide users mark, just released it's mobile messaging app for Windows Phone 8, capitalizing on the new phones adoption in global markets. The majority of Nimbuzz users are in emerging markets, and the company has become a major player in the space along with WhatsApp, Skype, GroupMe and others as noted by Tuesdays TechCrunch article.
The Nimbuzz app takes advantage of Windows Phone's OS increased native language support, and the new version is available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Hindi and Arabic. The cross-platform messaging app allows users to message, video, call, and share data with others for free over wifi connections.
The company claims to be clipping along with 210,000 new registrations daily, and the Windows Phone 8 app comes at a time when it's partner, Nokia, looks to expand the reach of it's Lumia portfolio worldwide. "As Nokia expands the reach of the Nokia Lumia portfolio, the reach of Nimbuzz also increases", notes Bryan Biniak, VP and General Manager of Global Partner and Application Development for Nokia.
The Windows Phone 8 version of Nimbuzz supports locked screen notifications, communication alerts and customizable Live Tiles, which are unique to the Windows Phone's OS. Users can choose a small tile or larger tile to display on their home screen, which flips between content and lets users choose to either join a chat or view it later. There is also an option to allow the Live Tiles to visually alert users to the number of new unread messages.
"As the early pioneer in mobile messaging, Nimbuzz has witnessed an increasing choice by consumers to use messaging apps for communicating on their mobiles," said Vikas Saxena, Nimbuzz CEO. "Windows Phone as a mobile platform continues to gain traction around the world and our 150 million and counting customers can upgrade to a Windows Phone device knowing their favorite messaging app is available."
In addition to the Windows Phone 8 version, Nimbuzz is also available on Android, iOS, Symbian, J2ME in addition to both Windows and Mac desktops.
