Huawei Unveils Tablet To Compete With Apple, Samsung
Huawei Technologies Co., China’s largest phone maker, unveiled a 7-inch Android-based tablet PC in Singapore called the MediaPad, as the company expands its push into consumer markets and said it was also developing a 10-inch device, putting it in competition with Apple and Samsung Electronics.
Huawei’s new MediaPad tablet with 7-inch screen will run Android Honeycomb 3.2 operating system details of which have not yet been posted on Android.com, Versions 3.0 and 3.1 were designed to run on 10-inch tablets and 1x , 2x were for smart phones.
It said the MediaPad will use a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor from Qualcomm, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with HD video recording, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as 1080p full HD playback and HDMI port. There's also 14.4Mbps HSPA+ and Wi-Fi Wireless-N connectivity.It will also come with pre-installed applications such as Facebook and Twitter.
The MediaPad will be sold globally and will have more than six hours of battery life, according to different statements. Huawei declined to reveal the price for the device.
Apple has the biggest share in the tablet market today. Huawei's new MediaPad, however, Huwai is trying compete against tablets from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Motorola. In China, apart from Apple and Samsung. Huawei's tablet PCs also compete with Lenovo and ZTE.
