Will The Next Revolution Be Democratization of Online Media Publishing?
Some of the issues I track and write about are success stories about personal empowerment through web technology. We all know the average person can use the Internet to do creative things, start a business, communicate ideas, etc. It's about the democratization of information and communication. It's great stuff, and inspiring, too. Remember the desktop publishing revolution? If data trends are any indication, the next "revolution" will be the democratization of online media publishing and will go beyond posting free YouTube videos.
Why would this be important to you?
This democratization of media delivery has been a long time coming for many reasons. Some of the hurtles have been technical, some obviously cost related.
But think about it. If you're not a media giant, how would you create and manage your own "iTunes-like" eMedia store within your website? How would you serve up a huge library of videos, do live video casts, or build online learning programs in one unified space? (I did mention you weren't Apple, right?)
Syncrospace, www.syncrospace.com a start-up company, may have an interesting solution to unify these processes for non-technical people. Part of the program offers a simple content manager that lets you:
• Load your site with various digital media types (including live video)
• Organize content with categories, thumbnails, descriptions & price
• Provide & maintain an end-user management system
• Create a user interface with your brand identity
• Offer a secure built-in payment gateway
• Easily embed the eMedia store/library into your site
• Publish your content cross-platform with no downloads or installs
"We saw a tremendous demand for companies to organize, manage and publish their own media content and web communications," says Paul Shirer, founder of Syncrospace . "Professionals want to go way beyond just posting on YouTube or embedding a couple of videos on a blog page. And many companies already have a rich library of video assets, or they are producing & shipping DVDs. They really needed a better way to deliver that content more efficiently online. That's why we built SyncroSpace."
There is clearly a need to unify these processes and change the way media content is delivered and marketed around the world. This democratization of media delivery has been a long time in coming.
