Google Sage TV Purchase Adds One More Piece to the Google TV Puzzle
Google is a company which never tries to find a ‘magic bullet’. It knows that the web requires patience, perseverance and the willingness to tackle the same thing from every angle in order to find the best fit possible.
Despite its size Google has always been quick to admit mistakes, close down services which do not work and move fast to provide fixes. It has also loosened its purse strings, spending big across many different areas in an attempt to find shortcuts to get it where it needs to in terms of market dominance.
Google TV is just one piece of a far more complex puzzle which aims at nothing less than putting Google products at the heart of every home just like it has put Google search at the centre of any online worker’s existence and Google Adwords at the core of any paid online marketing.
Whether it will succeed or not is, quite literally, the multi-billion question here. To pull it off Google needs to do what it always does best: put in place all the necessary little nudges in its products which then lead towards the next inexorable step in a grand strategy. Certainly its recent purchase of Sage TV for an undisclosed sum appears to be a step in that direction.
Sage TV has tech which would complement Google TV and would make the offering of TV viewing on Android phones and tablets a nice, extra feature which is totally compatible with Google’s approach to how it does business.Continued on the next page
