Google Rumors, Hearsay, Speculation....and maybe Truth?
Well, are they or aren't they?
Word in the blogosphere is that Google is going to launch a new social network called "Google Circles" that would enable users to share status, photo, and video sharing. Well, that puts half the tech population in a tizzy, because really—it's about time Facebook was overthrown as THE website-du-jour.
But despite all the hype and the hope, it doesn't seem that we're going to have any answers anytime soon. On one hand, reports claim that Chris Messina is the head of the project. On the other, Chris Messina has said himself that although Google is attempting to incorporate some social networking aspects into their products, there are no plans to create a social network.
There has been speculation for some time that Google was to launch these types of sites: from Google Me to Google Loop to Google +1, none of which came to fruition. Google Wave and Google Buzz, on the other hand, both crashed and burned into oblivion. With as many users Google has, you would think they would have found a way to form a formidable social networking presence.
While Google remains adamant in its opposition that anything is in the works, the rumors persist. One can't help but feel that where there's smoke, there's bound to be fire. Why else would figures like O’Reilly Media founder Tim O’Reilly say that he's seen the product and "It looks awesome."
Sounds like we should get ourselves ready for the unveiling just around the corner, despite Google's stance that these are all unfounded rumors.
