Facebook Quietly Rolls Out New Profile Design For 'Like' Pages
Today Facebook quietly rolled out the new profile design for business "like" pages. Along with the new design comes some much-needed enhancements for those who manage a "like" page. While it will take some time to roll out the new design to all "like" pages, those who get the design now have received an early Christmas present.
One of the biggest complaints with managing a "like" page was that you couldn't get notifications when things happen similar to to what you get when something happens on your personal page. So for example, on your personal page if someone posted on your wall, or sent you a message, or tagged you in a photo, you got a notification. Not so with your "like" page. That has been changed and I am really psyched about it. Notifications for everything now.
Now, you have a quick way to ask a question to your fans. In the past, you had to install an app to ask a poll question. Now you can simply ask a question using the Question button at the top of your wall, and your question goes to all your fans. The question feature obviously won't provide as many bells and whistles as a app designed to poll your fans, but it is a quick and easy way to engage your fans and get them interacting with you.
A feature that will cause some confusion is now when you visit your "like" page, you must log into the page. When you go to your "like" page after logging into Facebook, you will see it as a fan would see it. It appears to me they are doing this to provide more separation between your personal and business activity inside Facebook. You must then click the log-in button at the top of the page to log in with the same credentials that you normally use with Facebook. Then you use the Account link in the upper right corner to switch back and forth between your "like" page and your personal page.
Even as I type this, Facebook keeps going up and down and my "like" page keeps switching between the old and new design, so big changes are obviously happening today. More goodies include being able to create lists of your fans the way.. you create lists for your friends. Also the chat feature is gone when you are logged into your "like" page, so your friends don’t bother you while you are working. Now wasn’t that thoughtful of them to do that?
