A Good Stiff Beer Can Do the Same for Bones
The silicon in beer can help contribute to bone strength. According to a study at UC-Davis (a clear party study school), lighter beers like pale ales provide the most benefit once you get past the notion that you've been drinking silicon all this time.
Unfortunately, any lingering hope that downing a few beers in a hurry might provide support for growing bones would be wiped out by the fact that the booze would probably destroy brain tissue along the way, likely irreparably. Also, excessive drinking appears to ruin bone density instead of helping. So much for cramming for a bone exam, kids.
Instead, the study's authors still recommend milk for strong bones. (And no, not wine or spirits. Nice try, brain-damaged teens.)
