As our stay came to an end, Rich finally got a day off work and was able to swim with us at the pool. Everyone loved being able to play and swim with Daddy... he was sorely missed over the 3 weeks we were there. Kaden found he could float on the noodles unassisted (but heavily guarded!) Kylin, Rich, & Kaden Chillin' Mother and Son Our Kids A.J.

There aren't words to describe how much we love being here with Kirk and Theresa and the kids. Rich and his brother are very close and the relationship they have has influenced the relationships our families have. The kids all get along so well-- you may think that having 6 kids together would be a recipe for chaos and disaster, but they are all very kind and so helpful.

Loreen's son, Wayne, and his wife, Angela, just joined the Crazy Parents of 2 Boys Less Than 2 Years Apart Club when their second son, Ronan Shilo, was born June 29th. Their first son, Shayne, will be 2 in September. We visited them in Oakland during our weekend in Palo Alto for Rich's cousin's wedding.

This annual trip to California is really important to us, because it allows our kids to maintain a relationship with their family here. We treasure the time we spend with them, especially when they share their homes with us and allow us to be a part of their daily lives.

We left the Country Fair Sunday evening at 6 or 7 pm. Luckily Danielle did the hard work of finding where we parked when she left earlier in the afternoon, so we didn't have to search around in the blazing hot sun. The kids were filthy and sticky from head to toe, so we gave them a quick bath with a water jug we keep in our car, and then were on our way.

One of the ultimate highlights of our year is the Oregon Country Fair. On the surface, it looks like 3 days of crowds, music, food and vendors, but on the inside it is so so much more. The fair embodies a spirit that I strive to carry with me in my daily life.

From the time Kylin was born, I knew that when I found the person I wanted to spend my life with and got married, I wanted that person to adopt her. It is not that I want to take anything away from Jamie. He has been and continues to be an amazing father--his world revolves around Kylin, and they really adore each other.
