Martin Malmsten and linked library data

    http://inkdroid.org/ journal/ 2008/ 09/ 02/ martin-malmsten-and-linked-library-d…

I’m currently listening to Richard Wallis’ interview w/ Martin Malmsten of the Royal Library of Sweden. It’s a really fascinating view inside a library, and the mind of a developer that are publishing bibliographic resources as linked data.

Just acting as a go-between: Dave’s blog on XBRL

    http://ivanherman.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 01/ just-acting-as-a-go-between-dave%…

Dave Raggett’s blog may not be regularly read by SW people, so I thought it would be worth raising some attention. If you are interested by XBRL and Semantic Web, his blog on the subject may be of interest… Possibly related posts: (automatically generated)My Home - My Future « Dave Lambert’s BlogDave’s Whiteboard » Blog Archive » SME?

    Mozilla Ubiquity

    http://danbri.org/ words/ 2008/ 08/ 28/ 369

The are some interesting things going on at Mozilla Labs. Yesterday, Ubiquity was all over the mailing lists. You can think of it as “what the Humanized folks did next”, or as a commandline for the Web, or as a Webbier sibling to QuickSilver, the MacOSX utility. I prefer to think of it as the Mozilla add-on that distracted me all day.

    CrunchBase Interview

    http://bnode.org/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ 27/ crunchbase-interview

Semantic CrunchBase seems to be worth the time I'm putting into it. Thanks to TechCrunch's and CrunchBase' great move to open their data and encourage reuse (and writing about the apps that use their API), I've had the chance to do a couple of SemWeb demos and reach out to the audience that could benefit as much (or maybe even more) from RDF & Co.

    Whither RDF?

    http://stuartsierra.com/ 2008/ 08/ 27/ whither-rdf

RDF is seductive.  I can’t get away from it.  Something about the ability to represent anything and everything in one consistent model just tugs at my engineer’s heartstrings. The problem with RDF, as I’ve discovered through painful experience, is that the ability to represent everything sacrifices

All I know about RDF/OWL I learned in preschool

I don’t want to seem pretentious, but back in preschool I was a star student. At least when it came to potatoes. I am not sure what it’s called in US preschools, but what we meant by a potato, in my French classroom, was an oval shape in which you put objects.

    Known applications of MapReduce

    http://www.dbms2.com/ 2008/ 08/ 26/ known-applications-of-mapreduce/

Most of the actual MapReduce applications I’ve heard of fall into a few areas: Text tokenization, indexing, and search Creation of other kinds of data structures (e.g., graphs) Data mining and machine learning That covers all MapReduce apps I recall hearing about via commercial companies and users, and also includes most of what’s in the two big sources I found online.
