Wordpress is a package of blogging software originally developed by Matt Mullenweg with contributions from a number of other authors. It is released under an open source license through the site wordpress.org. It is the most widely used stand-alone blogging software in the world.
Wordpress uses PHP files and Cascading Style Sheets to structure the blog site, storing weblog entries in the host's SQL database. Presentation and features of a wordpress page can be modified using thousands of different themes, plugins and widgets to produce a great deal of customization. While a great many of these resources are available free of charge, the market for high-end commercial plugins and themes is growing rapidly.
Wordpress is noted for its ease of use and extensive configurability. It is literally possible to set up a working Wordpress blog in less than 10 minutes. You can even host it for free through the Wordpress host site.
