For the 15th year, Tangente has opened its new season with Extracurricular Dances, a program of short pieces by recent graduates of Montreal dance schools. Of course the works are a tad uneven, but overall there is plenty of good stuff to make it worth the price of admission.

Diverge **½ Five Concordia choreographers share the stage for this show. The first piece, Carrots on the Brain, was created for an in situ performance with three dancers in the Concordia EV building. While it worked beautifully there, its transformation into a solo in a conventional space robs it of what was most interesting about it.

Harry S. Truman is famous for having said “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” It’s a sentence that came back to mind yesterday as I watched the CLASH event unfold at Tangente.

As if there wasn’t enough dance in Montreal right now with the FTA, there is also the OFF.T.A., the OFF UQAM, and Clash. Looks like the perfect time to check out dance or theatre or whatever-you-call-that performance, especially since all of the shows at these events are cheap or even free.

What would you do if you had to dance a duet, but your partner didn’t show up? Not only did this actually happen to Andrew Turner when he was a student at Concordia University, but since then he’s used it as inspiration and decided to recreate the situation over and over again.
