    http://www.renewablesnews.com/ index.php/ 2008/ 05/ 15/ sen-alexander-should-ext…

Sen. Lamar Alexander’s seven step Manhattan project is a great proposal to begin solving the United States’ energy problems and climate change. Although he has supported climate change and renewable energy by submitting these steps, there are more urgent things that he could be doing.

    Word Problems

Problem solving, one of the NCTM Process Standards, is critical to learning mathematics. Students may feel confident with computation, measurement, and statistics, but they can feel completely lost when asked to apply those skills to a word problem.

Increasing Deli Foot Traffic in a Declining Market

    http://growingmybusiness.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 15/ increasing-deli-foot-traff…

In the building I work in, there is a nice little deli that serves breakfast and lunch.  While they have the advantage of being a monopoly service business within the building, the also suffer from the not-so-infrequent moves of tenants.  Right now, the building tenant situation is that they are

The Past reflects upon the Present

    http://thepowerofnegativeblogging.com/ 2008/ 05/ 15/ the-past-reflects-upon-the-…

One of the things I hear a lot from overly positive people is that we should forget the past and look toward the future. Unfortunately, our past actions create our present. A pattern of behavior in the past gives us understanding of how behavior will be in the present. We learn from our experiences (I hope).

It’s halfway through May and the people who actually meant their New Years’ Resolutions are still showing up at the gym. A woman with a Raphaelite body creeps in and tries to hide out at the back of the aerobics class. I restrain an impulse to run up to her and hug her for showing up again.

    http://run4rest.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 13/ break-free/

I feel like its always me helping other people. Not that they ask me but I just do it. The funny thing is that the person I am trying to help may not want my help. So what forces me to put my nose were it doesn’t belong? I want to break free from this.

Solving each problem as it arises.

    http://text.chrisrusak.com/ 2008/ 05/ 12/ solving-each-problem-as-it-arises/

The quote from John Baldessari that I posted last week, “Solving Each Problem As It Arises” is incredibly inspiring to me. I wasn’t yet twenty when I saw it for the first time, and for all I can remember, it was my first major contact with a Conceptual Art piece.

    Organic Chemistry (Hardcover)

    http://book.shopmild.com/ organic-chemistry-hardcover/

This is my favorite chemistry book. This book is different from others because it’s conversational in tone and easy to read. If more chemists wrote like this, there would be a lot fewer discouraged potential chemists out there. The electron diagrams lead to complete understanding of reactions so you don’t need to memorize them.
