I learned about sketchcast.com from the Chronicle of Higher Ed’s “Wired” blog. Apparently some teachers are using this tool to some effect in their courses. Here is the nickel tour: You draw in a small window using a pen tool, text tool, and eraser tool. You can record your voice along with your drawing or sketch.

If you are looking for a different way to add a presentation to your blog or online class, SketchCast might be worth a look. It is a browser-based tool which allows you to record your drawings or text and record audio along with what you are putting in SketchCast window.

Use Sketchcast to help my students outside of the classroom. Check out my first sketch below; it's nothing pretty and I actually teach three subjects, not just math (I'm not sure why science and social studies didn't show up).

Just in case you were looking for something to distract you from work. Here's something to waste a few minutes of your day. Sketchcast records your pen strokes and saves them as a movie so you can create a drawing and then watch it draw itself over and over again.

On the way home from work last night I bought myself a little treat: It’s a Wacom Bamboo 1 graphics tablet - just the basic model for playing with. One of the things I will start using it for is creating Sketchcasts, which look like a really cool mashup of lo- and hi-tech.

Sketchcast is a great way to demonstrate ideas and concepts through drawing and voice. Using Sketchcast is as easy as drawing on a white board while explaining a concept. Sketchcast provides users with a place sketch diagrams while speaking at the same time. The sketches can then be embedded into a blog or shared via email.

I hope many of my readers had time to review the Math247 wiki and take a look at some of the screencasts that are being made by teachers and students. Since my readers are users of SMART Boards, my solution for creating Mathcasts quickly and easily is to use your SMART Board and the Sketchcast website.
