Founder Steve Saleen departed in 2007, deciding that it might be more interesting to try and import a Chinese pickup truck for Chamco, and starting up a new performance company, SMS.

For the year 2009, Saleen has introduced their most efficient Mustang yet: the Dark Horse Extreme Edition. With a limited production rate of 25 coupes, while being built this has been picked as a classic round up of high end performance at Saleen.

One of the baddest ‘Stangs Ford has engineered to date, the new ‘09 Saleen Dark Horse has made finally made its fearsome debut. With Speedlab’s SuperShaker ram-air system mated with the Saleen Port Matched Series VI Integrated Screw type supercharger the Dark Horse tears it up on the track, putting out a whopping 620-hp and 600 lb-ft of torque.

Ford will reveal the all new Mustang at the 2008 LA Auto Show, before that Saleen will take the most of current Mustang with the 2009 Dark Horse Extreme Edition. Saleen will build only 25 of the Dark Horse Extreme Edition Mustangs, production will begin in November.

America’s premier niche vehicle manufacturer, Saleen Inc. has officially unveiled the Saleen Dark Horse Extreme Edition Mustang which is based on the 2009 Ford Mustang GT. There will be only 25 units of the Dark Horse Mustang to be built and it features Speedlab SuperShaker which provides both performance and styling.

With the upcoming debut of the 2010 Ford Mustang at the LA Auto Show, the existing enormous slate of special-edition Mustangs will be wiped clean, ready for a new crop. But not before a couple more special editions come out, like the Saleen Dark Horse.
