I first heard the slogan ‘The Fresh Food People’ in a very popular supermarket in Singapore the Cold Storage, where we go and buy yummy things to stuff our bellies.   Now that we are here in Sydney, there is no Cold Storage here but there is one who carries the same slogan, the Woolworths and just recently I have learned that they call it differently in Melbourne, Safe Way.

In California, I prefer Safeway. On a rare visit to Florida, there’s a Publix. For the most part these stores are interchangeable.

Pleasanton, California-based Safeway Stores, Inc. held the grand opening of the retailer's first small-format grocery store today in Long Beach, in Southern California. It's the first of a number of the small-format stores, named "The Market," Safeway plans to open in California, and elsewhere in its market regions.
