    Context: Richard Brautigan/Stark

"There were so many blackberries back in there that it was hard to believe. They were huge like black diamonds but it took a lot of medieval blackberry engineering, chopping entrances and laying bridges, to be successful like the siege of a castle." That's form a story called "Blackberry Motorist." The title caught my eye, as if it were written yesterday.

Thanks to reader “Uncle Crizzle” (a.k.a. Craig Lindsey) for requesting this week’s review. As always, for instructions on how to request the next review for this feature (to run in two weeks), see the bottom of this post. The more heist movies I see, the more I realize that the secret to a good one lies in three factors.

    DC TAKES ON DC

    http://www.youdothatvoodoo.com/ 2008/ 07/ 29/ dc-takes-on-dc/

I’ve written about Darwyn Cooke before, in a review of the collection of his take on Will Eisner’s Spirit. I’ve kept an eye out for more of his work since, and recently picked up his two volume exploration of the DC superhero universe’s roots, The New Frontier. As ever with Darwyn, his work looks out of time.

    The Graphic Novel Score.

    http://iwasben.com/ 2008/ 07/ 27/ the-graphic-novel-score/

It can be a strange experience watching two fandoms collide. I first heard about IDW’s plans to adapt Richard Stark’s Parker novels through a crime fiction website. They didn’t mention the name of the artist involved, which left me thinking it was going to be a hack job.
