Keeping Young Adults in the Church
http://blog.ancient-future.net/ 2008/ 05/ 10/ keeping-young-adults-in-the-church…I read a recent article about a priest who called for new strategies to keep young people in Church. I agree that this should be a vital aspect of parish ministry. Vibrant parishes usually have a lot for youth, a lot for older people, a lot for families, but outside of university campuses almost nothing for single or married younger people.

updated: stetzer and hirsch behind the scenes at exponential 2008
http://relevintage.com/ stetzer-hirsch-and-warren-behind-the-scenes-at-exponenti…Todd Rhoads, Scott Hodge, Chris Elrod, and Jay Hardwick teamed up at the 2008 Exponential Conference and asked some tough questions of some of the leading thinkers in church life. It is so refreshing to hear from these guys from ‘behind the curtain.’ An interview with Andy Stanley is forthcoming.

What is the best conference to attend?
http://thoughtsofresurrection.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 05/ conferences/I always hope to continue learning for my own faith journey, leadership, and to be a part of renewing the mainline church. One of the ways that this can be accomplished is through networking and learning at conferences.

when “postmodern” gets too nice
http://mycontemplations.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 05/ 02/ when-postmodern-gets-too-ni…Ever since I started blogging, and even before that, I’ve tried steering as clear as possible from the term “postmodern” (or post-modern). It’s a minefield when you go out there. When I use the word I try keeping to a very general definition.

the “sent” church…
http://relevintage.com/ the-sent-church/Sorry for the absence. I’ve been wrapping up my second semester of seminary over the last few weeks. Not much will change over the next couple of weeks because I’ll be working on a term paper for my Theology II class through LTS.

Kafka on the Shore
http://recommendedread.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 04/ kafka-on-shore.htmlThis past week, I finished up Haruki Murayami's Kafka on the Shore. It was quite a fun read. Kafka on the Shore is a true postmodern text, and is very self-conscious of that. At times, it diverts its attention to the act of story-telling, and that always ends up in a fun spot.

the soundscapes of everyday life
http://www.emergentkiwi.org.nz/ archives/ the_soundscapes_of_everyday_life.phpI went to see Across the Universe today. It's not a great movie. It has some decidedly wierd bits and it struggles to decide whether it should be driven by the songs or by the plot. But it is a fascinating movie to watch in terms of missional church and cultural change research.

Huge Announcement: Church Name
http://cecworship.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 04/ 28/ huge-announcement-church-name/This past Sunday our pastor announced that with much prayer within the leadership and elders we have decided to change Our church name from St. Michael’s to lifepath church. I was a part of the prayer and thinking of this and have my thoughts about what this means for us. I will expand on it tonight.

Too bad if you disagree with those darn kidz
http://www.reyes-chow.com/ 2008/ 04/ too-bad-if-you.htmlThere as a really good article published this last week in the SF Gate, "Millenial Generation" set to rock the vote, where a case was made that largest generation in American History is driving the presidential election and will drive the future of our political culture.

finding community voice part 2
http://www.emergentkiwi.org.nz/ archives/ finding_community_voice_part_2.phpIn my last post, I celebrated helping a community find their own voice around Scripture. The upside is this genuine sense of a group of people gathered under a text and the realisation that the Spirit is the teacher and we are all learners. The downside is when people bring their own agenda into the room.
