The post-American world is naturally an unsettling prospect for Americans, but it should not be. This will not be a world defined by the decline of America but rather the rise of everyone else. It is the result of a series of positive trends that have been progressing over the last 20 years, trends that have created an international climate of unprecedented peace and prosperity.

Security is about preventing adverse consequences from the intentional and unwarranted actions of others. What this definition basically means is that we want people to behave in a certain way... and security is a way of ensuring that they do so.

Now, as we come to the end of a tumultuous political year, it seems clear that the candidates and their advisers absorbed the wrong lessons from Dean’s moment, or at least they failed to grasp an essential truth of it, which is that these things can’t really be orchestrated.

This past summer we were fortunate enough to host an exhibition by one of our favourite artists collectives: Rinzen (www.rinzen.com). This australian bunch of very talented individuals are scattered around the globe and 2 of them, Steve and Rilla came over for the show, decorated the place and brought over a superb collection of original artwork, mostly ink and watercolor on paper.
