I went out to write at the San Francisco Bread Company today. The longer I write, the more I realize how important it is to get out of the house, even if it is only to sequester myself at a small table in a cafe with my headphones on listening to music, surfing the web, struggling with new concepts and editing a book I wrote that I actual enjoy reading.

While my sister was visiting, we stumbled upon my library’s monthly used book sale. For $1.00, I was able to pick up a 753-page hardcover, library edition of “Sixty-Seven Tales” by Edgar Allan Poe. Then I put it on my bookshelf and forgot all about it. My legs were tired and I needed something to read while I took a short break yesterday.

We have the strangest robin in our back yard. I think he is the same “devil bird” that came bumping into our window last year. My husband and I were puzzled by the dumb thing then, and made the determination that he had brain damage from trying to get some string from our curtain inside the window for his nest.

Because of his injuries, Gregor had lost much of his mobility - probably permanently. He had been reduced to the condition of an ancient invalid and it took him long, long minutes to crawl across his room - crawling over the ceiling was out of the question...

I’ve had a strange couple of days. I was feeling more pessimistic and antisocial than usual on Friday, and spent the end of my night hibernating in my room, crying, but enjoying solitude. If I’m in a group for too long, I inevitably begin wandering away, subconsciously separating myself from the group.
