By Deep Harm - Cross-posted from Daily Kos If you live in the Washington, D.C., area, you won't find a more interesting free event than the International Assembly of Whistleblowers, May 12-16. I will be attending because I will be a speaker on a domestic surveillance panel, along with Eric Lichtblau, Jesselyn Radack, Babak Pasdar and Michelle Richardson.

Being Crazy in a Sane World

    http://psychcentral.com/ blog/ archives/ 2008/ 05/ 10/ being-crazy-in-a-sane-wor…

The New York Times brings us one of those insightful pieces that I wish were commonplace at all newspapers — the everyday story of people living with mental illness and fighting for their rights. It details the stories of a number of people living with mental illness, including Liz Spikol who blogs regularly over at Philadelphia Weekly.

Cops tase 82-year-old heart patient in bed

RCMP officers used a taser to subdue an 82-year-old man in his hospital bed in Kamploops, B.C. last week. The man had become delusional and pulled a knife out of his pocket, police and nurses say. When he refused to drop the knife, the officers tased him three times. I realize that anyone with a blade is potentially dangerous.

In the public news I’ve recently seen some stories about physicians having guns in their offices. This is in response to incidents where disgruntled or disturbed patients have come into physician offices and assaulted staff or physicians.

I didn't get around to writing about this at the time, but a couple weeks ago I read in eWeek about how Microsoft Explains [its] HealthVault Strategy. There are a couple of analogies I wouldn't have made myself: MS compares HealthVault to XBox and PayPal.
