    And so it ends

    http://selberg.org/ 2008/ 05/ 04/ and-so-it-ends/

It looks like Microsoft’s attempted acquisition of Yahoo! has come to an end. Apparently, $46 billion wasn’t good enough, but $50 billion would have been. So what’s $4 billion between friends? Ah well. Mini already has a post up having popped a cork, and I’m sure MSFTExtremeMakeover will have something shortly.

    IPTV in Korea

    http://mot-bile.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ iptv-in-korea.html

A 100 Mbps connection, a brand new Homevita home networking service including a complimentary Samsung Q1 Ultra (slick, black, DMB enabled, lovely keyboard). And all I can get is VOD channels. The closest thing to live TV I get is through classic web browsing or through CCTV (most exciting Reality TV program : who paid me a visit the last few days ?).

This might comes to a shock to some of you but yes, Google’s search engine dominance in South Korea is less than 2%. Proof? Here’s an image I got from a blog post from Korea: As you can see in the above graph, Naver.com is dominant with over 70% market share, Daum.net with 12%, Yahoo at 7%, Empas.com at 2%, and Google at the last place.

Google Launches Universal Search in Korea

    http://bernardmoon.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 01/ google-launches-universal-search.html

I knew about this for a while that Google was working on launching "Universal Search" in Korea. This allows Google to compete in South Korea, which is the 5th largest online ad market in the world. Universal Search is standard in Korea and Naver.com, which has almost 80% of the search market in Korea has provided it since 2002...

Globally, Baidu Beats Microsoft in Search; Yandex Creeping Up On Ask

    http://www.techcrunch.com/ 2008/ 01/ 25/ globally-baidu-beats-microsoft-in-searc…

While Google dominates the top slot in search both in the U.S. and worldwide, with a global search market share of 62 percent, there is still a lot of elbowing going on below, especially when you look beyond the U.S. In a comScore ranking of the top-10 global search engines as measured by number of searches during the month of December, 2007, Yahoo comes in at a distant No.

Service entry: looking for information about a "Yeti bot"

The stats for my blog, yesterday, were all messed up. With a quite usual amount of unique visits (about 900), the amount of requested pages and of total hits went skyrocketing, totaling more than 400MB of traffic, against an usual ~100 MB (depending on blog posts and if they are picked up by other sites too).

Google beaten in the Far East

    http://sharperedge.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 01/ 03/ google-beaten-in-the-far-east/

Life on the other side of the planet. (www.richard-wilkinson.com) Google dominates the search engine rankings for the majority of the western world. Their dominance extends beyond just the english speaking world as the success of Google.fr exemplifies. Internet users in the East Asia, however, are yet to be won over by Google Search.

    Korean Search Market

    http://www.koreaninsight.com/ ?p=70

Prestigious Financial Times included an article today about the Korean search market. Korea is, as you may already know, not “googlearized” as most other search markets in the world. Instead is Naver the leading portal. Actually, the article states that Naver now is the fifth biggest portal in the world.
