With this increased use of protective wear, health care workers noticed more and more how the material irritated their skin and developed latex allergies.

The US FDA has approved of a new alternative to latex gloves that apparently do not cause allergic reactions in people with Type 1 latex allergy. The new gloves, made by privately-held Yulex Corp, are derived from Guayule, a desert plant native to the southwestern United States and North Central Mexico.
