By Alex Fedorak Director, Public Relations, Kia Motors America   More than 450 media and guests attended the North American debut of the Soul this past Thursday, November 20th at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.  Thursday was the second day of the media preview and a pall was cast over the show with all the activities in Washington D.C.

Kelsey Mays checks out Kia’s all-new funky hatchback, the Soul. He’s always been a big fan of the sliding sun shade and we’re not sure why, but his riff on the standard USB and iPod connectors is worth watching the entire video.

It seems Kia’s new Soul, unveiled at the L.A. auto show today, roughly splits the difference between a Scion xB or Nissan Cube and a compact crossover, like the Suzuki SX4. The dash has fairly traditional shapes: The center controls face skyward, the shifter goes on the floor and the gauges sit behind the steering wheel.

More to the point, will this thing look cool to at leastsome of the 70 million Generation Y-sters born between 1979 and 1995, the young guys you see in the office these days wearing flip-flops, iPods, and Hollister T-shirts? They’re the targeted buyers.

The Kia Soul will make its stateside debut at the 2008 LA Auto Show as a 2010 model. Of course, we are never lucky to get any diesel options here so Kia will only offer the Soul only with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine making 142-hp. The engine will be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
