Everyone is looking for ways to make money these days especially with the economic downturn or financial crisis, if you may. Don’t fall for any get-rich-quick schemes or working at home stuffing envelopes crap. Those don’t work.

Everyone is an SEO these days. With the wide proliferation of information available to the ordinary Joe, every Tom, Dick and Harry now thinks they know how I should do my job. Now, this is not going to be a rant. I have nothing against people named Joe, Tom, Dick or Harry.

Think again. Google founders Larry and Sergey (we’re not really on a first-name basis with these guys, but we’d like to be) are always a step ahead. At least that’s what Dharmesh Shah argues in an article on search engine optimization at MarketingProfs.com.

Everyone on the internet this morning seems to be doing one of two things: googling for Sarah Palin or blogging about the new Google web browser, Chrome.  So like any good SEO I start thinking about how I can capture a piece of this search engine traffic.  My bright idea?  Why not capture both markets by titling a blog post What Sarah Palin could do with the Chrome on a Trailer Hitch?

SEO is a methodical long term process. Sure, dirty tricks can work for a short time, but this usually backfires and your site will be quickly banned and removed from the search results. Getting page views at any cost is a bad approach.

There are times when I often write for myself more than I do for the search engines and I do this because I want you to feel like I am writing for you and not for a computer who doesn’t care otherwise. Keyword stuffing is a term used with people most often stuff keywords into a post hence the word keyword stuffing.

Sadly even in 2008 most SEOs fail at writing, even SEO copywriting. Reading most SEO sites is still awful although the dark ages of too obvious keyword stuffing seem to be gone. So as even I, as a SEO, barely can stand it, imagine your average John 22 Vote(s)

In 2005 nobody would have argued that having the most relevant keywords stuffed into your domain name was worth more that just about anything when working the SERPS.  You could buy thousands of dollars worth of links and never achieve the same results that domain name keyword stuffing would do.

We do a lot of talking about ways to improve search engine rankings by optimizing our site with keywords, links and other tools of the trade. It’s easy to get carried away, though, and every once in a while we need to do a self check to be sure we aren’t crossing any lines in our zeal to get noticed.
