    Learning How To Type

    http://blissfullydomestic.com/ homeschool-bliss/ learning-how-to-type/

Computers have become such a way of life that it is now vital for kids to learn typing skills earlier than ever before. Gone are the days of learning keyboarding in high school. Correct keyboarding is now best learned when kids are in early elementary school.

    Missing Mom’s Stories

    http://www.kevinstilley.com/ missing-moms-stories/

Yesterday Dad and I stood beside Mom’s grave and I asked him what was his most precious memory from the 64 years that he was married to Mom.  He spoke about her teaching him to read and write after they were married. I love my folk’s stories and I will dearly miss Mom’s blend of humor, incongruity, and sentimental reflection.

    21st Century Keyboarding Skills

    http://www.assortedstuff.com/ ?p=2795

This past week was a busy one as we met with all of our elementary school-based trainers and, since we have an overly-large number of elementary schools, that meant four full days. Interacting with all these talented people is the best part and the liveliest discussions this time around centered on the topic of teaching keyboarding.

Keyboard practice and racing with Typeracer

    http://www.speedofcreativity.org/ 2008/ 08/ 22/ keyboard-practice-and-racing-wit…

This is a cross post from the TechLearning blog. Keyboarding is an important skill. I reflected a bit on cursive and keyboarding on the TechLearning blog a year ago this month in the post, “The New Cursive.” Perhaps my comparison of cursive writing to keyboarding was not appropriate.

    http://www.kzyo.com/ ?p=3085

Every day at least one person will ask if a particular data entry job is legit. Every day at least one person will ask to find a data entry position. Data entry jobs are the most desired, most favourable and most sought after position online. You will hear often data entry jobs are rare, few and far between and it’s true.

    How I Learned to Type

    http://www.katesays.org/ 2008/ 08/ 01/ how-i-learned-to-type/

Thanks to @abubnic for tweeting this to @kjarrett this morning! I learn SO much from eavesdropping……. As a former (and forever now - you can take the teacher from the computer lab, but can’t take keyboarding out of the teacher) keyboarding teacher, I thought this was a nice short video to show perhaps at the beginning of a keyboarding unit.

Learning Keyboarding: @School? @Home? Or, not at all?

    http://www.ncs-tech.org/ ?p=1417

A little ADHD-fueled early-morning bouncing around the web today led me to http://school.typingpal.com/ (currently used by a local district) and I started thinking … what is the best way for kids to learn keyboarding? At school? At home? Or, not covering it (the discipline) at all? This conversation can’t start without first considering the digital divide.

    Handwriting now a lost art

    http://homepaddock.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 07/ 29/ handwriting-now-a-lost-art/

I’d better start with a confession: I prefer a key board to pen and paper because my handwriting is appalling and I once spent several minutes trying to transcribe my shorthad before realising it was longhand.
