The Big Wood River Report: Jinxes, Trout, and Thanksgiving Turkey

    http://troutunderground.com/ 2008/ 11/ 27/ the-big-wood-river-report-jinxes-trou…

On my first cast on the Big Wood river I found myself attached to a 13″ rainbow trout, and though it sounds like something I’d be thankful for (catch the holiday theme?), I shuddered a little after I let him go. That’s because catching a fish on the first cast is a jinx, like talking openly about a no-hitter in the seventh inning, or telling an actor to have a great performance.

“Anything Goes” on This Playlist of New Music

    http://blog.cmt.com/ 2008-11-18/ anything-goes-on-this-playlist-of-new-music/

Making a living with words, I can always appreciate a clever turn of phrase, which is what sold me on Randy Houser’s first single. “Anything goes when everything’s gone,” he sings. Ain’t it the truth. He sang a few tunes at a private showcase last week, and I was impressed with his rich, resonant baritone.

Ketchup Helps Man Get Elected to State Supreme Court

    http://www.tomatocasual.com/ 2008/ 11/ 11/ ketchup-helps-man-get-elected-to-stat…

By Vanessa Richins It’s funny how sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference. In West Virginia, Menis Ketchum used ketchup to propel himself from an unknown Democratic lawyer to the newest state Supreme Court judge. Ketchum had a problem.

Opry Book Creates a Hectic Schedule

    http://blog.cmt.com/ 2008-11-07/ opry-book-creates-a-hectic-schedule/

The publicist for my new book, Behind the Grand Ole Opry Curtain, has only been at her job for a few weeks, but she is really kicking my butt. In a good way. Since the book’s publication on Oct. 8, she has had me doing phone interviews with morning, drive-time radio shows in every time zone.

Stars Tell Stories From Behind the Grand Ole Opry Curtain

    http://blog.cmt.com/ 2008-11-05/ stars-tell-stories-from-behind-the-grand-ole-op…

How dumb am I? How long have I been around the music business? Thirty years? You would think I’d know a thing or two about artists’ schedules by now. When I began writing the chapters for Behind the Grand Ole Opry Curtain in January 2007, I decided to write about the deceased stars first.
