Abridged from Socialist Economic Bulletin, by Ken Livingstone Clearly a rise in the top rate of income tax to 45p is  a step in the right direction. At present the fiscal arithmetic shows that it does not go far enough.

On Saturday went on Ken Livingstone's LBC show. Most of the time was spent on Baby P, not surprisingly. Just to break for a brief moment from Baby P - Ken said at the end that I could spend the last minute ranting about whatever I wanted. So I did. I made an appeal to Gordon Brown to re-open the sub-post offices in London that he has closed.

Ken Livingstone yesterday announced the establishment of a new coalition, Progressive London to promote progressive policies in the city. Progressive London will hold a conference on 24 January next year addressing the key issues to keep London at the cutting edge of the world today, including the international financial crisis, culture and art and community relations.

I will be talking about blogging London politics at the first convention in January alongside Tom Barry from Boris Watch and Martin Hoscik from Mayor Watch. Other speakers include Jon Cruddas MP and the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Green leadership on the London Assembly.

Boris Johnson today revealed the first draft of his draft Transport Strategy, to be later re-drafted again, before the final draft is re-drafted in the drafty winter of next year. Ordinarily today would be a day to bury bad news, but for Boris this appears to be a day to bury non news.
