    The film festival will open with The Man Who Loves, a film staring Monica Bellucci and Pierfrancesco Favino. The film is directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi. The film will kick of the gala event and seems to be a little low compared to last year.

    A collection of 8 short films will be featured at the recent Rome Film Festival. The film which was initially being held as a UN initiative is not really commissioned by them. The film talks about the decision to reduce world poverty to half by 2015.

    [Jane Campion was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and now lives in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.     “Der Baader Meinhof Komplex” is already being called the Downfall of this year with both of the main cast Bruno Ganz and Alexandra Maria Lara part of the cast. The film recounts the violence that was waged by the Red Army Faction in Germany in the late 1960s and 70s.

    Necklacing– in which a rubber tire, filled with kerosene, is forced around a victim’s chest and arms and set on fire– was a common form punishment imposed by “people’s courts” Apartheid-era South Africa. The practice was first captured by the late photographer Kevin Carter.

    A Reader Request (long time in coming --my apologies Scott!) #9 Personal Canon: The Movies I Think About When I Think About the Movies The menu on the 1999 DVD edition of The Piano is a hideously misleading photoshop tragedy. It’s garish, poorly composed and off putting. I won't even reprint it here to illustrate my point.
