Innovation First has created the Hexbug crab, a microrobotic toy that simulates a crab. The product is the latest in a series of realistic-acting animal robots created by the company. Although it is marketed towards kids, the crab may also garner some interest from adults as a calming presence.

Since I can remember, I’ve always fancied my own intelligent robot but never been able to afford the hefty price tag that accompanies it. So when I stumbled upon this ultra portable but ultra affordable intelligent bot, the Hexbug from Red5*, I could almost feel a glee of excitement as I may have just found a robot which could be fun and affordable all in one.

Bandai Japan has created this tiny robot that actually has characteristics of a real crab. It belongs to the Hex Bug line of Bandai, a line of toys that behave like the real life creature. When you turn on the crab robot, it will run sideways just like a real crab.

Robots are supposed to be cool, but why did Bandai release the Hex Bug robot crabs? After all, crabs aren’t exactly the most impressive creatures on earth to be turned into a Robot. Still, if you’re a crustacean lover, these Hex Bug crabs will come in red and blue colors, retailing for $25 a pop when August 9 rolls around in Japan.
