    Part of the problem when geeks come up with new tech is in the naming: They're not into marketing or making things simple for the layman. That's why terms like "really simple syndication" (RSS) exist. Seriously, does that mean anything to anyone outside of hard-core Web industry types? The term "followers," however--that makes good sense.

    On Monday google announced a beta of Gears for Safari. Gears allows the content of supporting webapps to be stored locally thus available when you are offline. After installing Gears for Safari and tinkering a bit I was happy to find it working without many problems.
