Following E*trade’s announcement that they were slightly increasing the interest rate on their Complete Savings Account to 3.15%, I’ve updated the list of savings and checking account interest yields. There have been a number of changes since the last update, including the following.

On Thursday, E*Trade Bank will increase the interest it pays on the Complete Savings Account from 3.01% to 3.15% APY. It’s a small move but it could be a good sign for savers if other banks follow suit. My company stock purchase plan account is held at E*TRADE and I plan on opening a savings account there the next time I sell my shares later this year.

Just heard from my client that E*TRADE is closing down the mortgage side of the company. He was in the process of getting a loan through E*TRADE, but was told today that they're "no longer in the mortgage business". This comes after E*TRADE reported a $91.2 million quarterly net loss last week which it attributed to the mortgage meltdown and it's exposure to mortgage securities.

After eight months of calling and writing, Reader Brice finally annoyed E*Trade enough to close his account. At least that's what the letter from E*Trade said; in reality, Brice never received a check for his balance, and although he couldn't access his $3,195, his account is still earning interest.
