Can the word “elite” be redeemed? I was more worried about that question yesterday than the presidential election. Yeah, I know I’m silly. But I’ve been using the word a lot lately — and I’ve discovered I’m very uncomfortable with it.

I pug heroics a lot. I like it for some reason. I guess its because I pretty much suck at healing 5-mans and I prefer wiping with a pug rather than with guildies. When you run with a pug theres always that excuse that its a pug and wiping is sort of expected.

I have mornings in which I am deluded into thinking I might know a thing or two. This is one of those mornings. This morning, I am deluded into thinking I might know a thing or two about the regular readers of this blog. Not just the folks who read the blog and leave comments, but also the folks who read the blog on a regular basis but don’t leave comments.

Let me ask two simple questions. Do artistic, scientific, and intellectual elites have an obligation to society, and if so, what is the nature of that obligation? I think the answer to the first question is obvious. Humans are social animals, and perhaps only some hermits fail to have any obligation to society.
