    Ars Electronica

    http://el-oso.net/ blog/ archives/ 2008/ 09/ 06/ ars-electronica/ en/

Greetings from Ars Electronica in Linz. I’ve got about a million emails to write, a couple presentations to give, and an opportunity to hang out with some friends that I only see once every … well, actually, at this point I see them more than my friends back in the States.

You Say Party! We Say Die! - Opportunity (Montag Remix)

    http://mp3hugger.com/ 2008/ 09/ you-say-party-we-say-die-opportunity.html

The art of the shout has become more apparent in indie pop over the last couple of years. One of its more obvious exponents is Vancouver’s You Say Party! We Say Die! Let me tell you I’ve toiled with their sound on many occasions but always end up retreating with the expressed intention of returning once I’ve downed several Paracetamol.

Life-changing experience: eat a WHOLE crab

    http://torley.com/ life-changing-experience-eat-a-whole-crab

While on vacation at the hotel resort by the ocean (see my earlier post), I ordered a whole Dungeness crab. It was extremely well-prepared, with herb & veg, and the ceremonial butter sauce. It came intact, waiting for me to devour it.

    ars electronica 2008 - a new cultural economy - day 1

    http://pieceoplastic.com/ index.php/ 3365/ ars-electronica-2008-a-new-cultural-e…

not much to say about the first day. as usual it was a day of first impressions, a brief dip into what’s around this year. i went to a few openings - ecology of the techno mind at lentos, the featured artist group from slovenia, seems very intense, kinda dark, kinda cool; hybrid ego, the japanese

    [ae] Wireless, open Linz

    http://www.hyperorg.com/ blogger/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ ae-wireless-open-linz/

I’m listening to Leon Dubosch via a translator. (German is my best not-English, but it’s not good enough.) Leonard thought about projects that could be done in Linz. Thomas Gegenhuber now speaks. Art reuses what has been created before. (He quotes Lessig.) What can a municipality do? Linz’s homepage is published under CC.

Damn. I just irretrievably lost my entire post on Tim Pritlove’s presentation. That’s really annoying. So, in the three minutes before the next presentation: Tim is a hacker and founder of the Chaos Computer Club. Hackers are artists he says, and artists are hackers. Hackers don’t try to break in.

    [ae] Michael Tiemann

    http://www.hyperorg.com/ blogger/ 2008/ 09/ 05/ ae-michael-tiemann/

Michael Tiemann tells us a little of his story. He once wrote some software and sold it to a company that was unable to market it. He was torn up that his work would never be used because it was owned and locked up by someone else. The music industry also doesn’t work well for musicians.
