Greetings from Ars Electronica in Linz. I’ve got about a million emails to write, a couple presentations to give, and an opportunity to hang out with some friends that I only see once every … well, actually, at this point I see them more than my friends back in the States.

The art of the shout has become more apparent in indie pop over the last couple of years. One of its more obvious exponents is Vancouver’s You Say Party! We Say Die! Let me tell you I’ve toiled with their sound on many occasions but always end up retreating with the expressed intention of returning once I’ve downed several Paracetamol.

While on vacation at the hotel resort by the ocean (see my earlier post), I ordered a whole Dungeness crab. It was extremely well-prepared, with herb & veg, and the ceremonial butter sauce. It came intact, waiting for me to devour it.

Michael Tiemann tells us a little of his story. He once wrote some software and sold it to a company that was unable to market it. He was torn up that his work would never be used because it was owned and locked up by someone else. The music industry also doesn’t work well for musicians.
