D.R. Horton, the nation’s largest homebuilder had some rather grim financial news today. The company reported a net loss of $399 million for its third quarter which ended June 30. That compares to a loss of $823 million for the same period last year.

Fort Worth-based homebuilder D.R. Horton may offer hope that the housing slump is past the worst, as it “only” posted a second-quarter loss of $400 million. That’s still better than the $826 million it lost for the same period a year ago.

Home builder D.R. Horton (DHI) just reported another quarter of plunging sales. The latest figure was a 44 percent drop to $1.43 billion, although the value of its inventory of unsold homes and land holdings seemed to stabilize somewhat. (more…)
