domain name registration
Domain name registration involves going to an official Internet registrar online, like GoDaddy or NameCheap. Then using the domain look-up tool on the registrars web site, entering the name or phrase for the domain name you would like to register can determine if the domain is available for registration immediately and in some cases available for back-order.
During domain name registration several options for TLDs or domain suffixes are available. These include .com, .ca, .info, .us, .me, .co.uk, .tv and many more.
Internet domain names are controlled by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). This non profit organization has a list of Accredited Domain Name Registrars. These registrars are companies which have been approved to sell domain names.
Prices for domain registration can range from $2 USD all the way up to $50 USD or more. This cost will be a yearly expense. Often registrars will have deals and provide discounts for multi-year purchases or ofter extras with the domain, like web hosting or free privacy protection for example.
