On the morning of July 15th, the price of crude oil, the most widely watched commodity in the world, was gyrating in a narrow range just above $145 /barrel as dealers in London were position-squaring ahead of the Nymex opening. Just a few days earlier, Iran was conducting war games in the Persian Gulf and threatening to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, if attacked.

Here are the major indices. Most got some support on Friday from their short-term moving averages, but the action was so dull, I can't take much meaning out of it. Perhaps everyone just needed a day of rest after the craziness of the past two weeks.

Here are the major indices. The Dow and S&P 500 still have some overhead resistance to deal with, but the Nasdaq and Russell 2000 have cleared some hurdles. Futures look to be lower tomorrow with the disappointing earnings reports we saw this evening (COF, MS, GOOG, MSFT) so we'll see how the market reacts and if some dip buyers come in.

Here are the major indices. The Dow and S&P are lagging the Nasdaq and Russell 2000 here, which cleared some resistance today. The only problem with today's action was the lack of volume - I would expect more if this was the start of a big move, at least more than the day before with the Nasdaq and Russell up over 3%.
