The dark-haired girl apologized this morning for being so emotional last night, for pressuring (her word) me about the possibility of marriage in the future, and asked if she were driving me away. I said that there is nothing wrong with sharing how you feel, even if when you are unhappy...

My ex-wife once said, upon learning that I attended an art opening with the prof, "That hurts. Do you know how many times I wish you had done that with me, and never had?" With all the times I've spent overnight with the dark-haired girl, I've imagined the prof thinking the same thing.

My ex-wife just commented that I seemed much happier when I was with the prof than I do now.

What will I do if it isn't the right relationship? I'm still telling myself that what I like makes up for the missing pieces of the puzzle, that the missing pieces might still appear... When do I decide, and how do I explain myself if I decided that it isn't?

I'm going to keep typing, distracting myself from the bizarre and intense urge to get a hammer and bang on my toe in the hope of relieving the pressure. Let's discuss romance. And other things. This week has been a reversal. An erasure of doubt. Complicated.

She wants to spend the weekend together. Some things seem to develop at a snail's pace, and others shock me with their speed.

On the one hand, I know that in a committed relationship one can perhaps expect some patience in such matters from the other person, especially when they've said that they want to take their time when making relationship decisions. On the other hand, the dark-haired girl's expression as I left was not the same as it usually is.

I suddenly have moved inside the outer moat. I am welcomed warmly. I didn't expect this, obviously, but it is where I wanted to be, before I lost hope. So let's see what happens.

It's Friday night, raining, and the dark-haired girl has cancelled another planned get-together (not even sure it could be called a date). Fortunately, I suppose, I have work to occupy my time. Sigh.
