What’s a Credit Crunch and Why Should We Care?

    http://www.amateureconomists.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 10/ 08/ whats-a-credit-crunch-and…

The U.S. stock market has been nothing if not volatile this year, especially over the course of the past few weeks. As the current credit crisis tightened and the world watched in horror, what most people saw was the stock market spiking and plummeting, often on mere rumor and speculation, and sometimes on the strength of what seemed like nothing at all.

Should credit card customers ask for a rate cut?

    http://www.creditcardsweb.co.uk/ 200810/ should-credit-card-customers-ask-for-a-…

Should credit card customers ask for a rate cut? Many credit card customers already know how quickly interest charges on their credit card debt can add up, and for many this means struggling to maintain repayments on their debts, which seem to never clear because of increased interest payments that keep getting added on.

The Lyme-life, My Efforts in Getting Treatment for Advanced Lyme

    http://wp02.miomia.net/ wp02/ 2008/ 23112.html

I can’t thank you all enough for your incredibly supportive emails and comments on my last post. You guys have become my family and my support. Now that I have that little bit of “Lyme Rage” out of my system I should probably take some time to explain what I am up against right now as far a treatment

[#2: Edit Options>MightyAdsense>Adsense Code] “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings likeeagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”-Isaiah 40:31it was this very verse, along with Philipians 4:13 “i can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens me” that got me through the past three weeks.

[#3: Edit Options>MightyAdsense>Adsense Code] I don’t know how to start this post…Hmmm…maybe I’ll just begin with the gist: I’m changing my Commercial Use (CU) Terms of Use (TOU). Some of you may have been here last August 1 when I started giving away CU freebies.

by hilzoy I’ll be liveblogging the debate as soon as it starts. 9:02: And so it begins. I wonder whether Tom Brokaw talks that way all the time, and if so, whether his voice ever gets on his nerves. 9:05: Economy. Obama: this is the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, caused by Republican economic philosophy.

Debate Advice and Dogma Bites Man

    http://wp02.miomia.net/ wp02/ 2008/ 23108.html

by Eric Martin At some point in tonight’s debate, John McCain will falsely accuse Barack Obama of planning to raise taxes on most, if not all, Americans (I expect a rehash of the debunked tax raise on families earning over $42,000 claim - McCain’s not one to let fact checkers interrupt his flow).

    Haunted Houses

    http://twentiesmoneymag.com/ blog/ 2008/ 10/ 08/ haunted-houses/

I got a funny, but sad email yesterday. It was a great little comic of a few kids going Trick-or-Treating. It depicts our current market environment and in somewhat of a faux-pas, shows how kids may be walking through a different kind of haunted neighborhood this year.

$2 trillion in retirement savings wiped out

    http://www.americablog.com/ 2008/ 10/ 2-trillion-in-retirement-savings-wiped.htm…

I realize that the much larger problem today is that the lending system is shut down but long term, losing $2 trillion (and likely a heck of a lot more) is unthinkable. We have friends who have lost 20% since opening an IRA at the start of the year, though that was the figure three weeks ago.
