Photos by Nancy Levine. See more after the jump. I am a creature of habit, and there are a few events I look forward to every fall. I’ve attended Oktoberfest since I was old enough to drive, although I’m still confused as to why it’s in September.

Back in August I participated in a BBQ Cookoff for my company’s diversity day for men (What’s more diverse than playing to male stereotypes? We had BBQ and Beer, the only thing we were missing were strippers). I was asked if I wanted to do the cook off and quickly said “eh, maybe”.

My mystery raw foods friend X and I (see Raw Foods Extravaganza) entered the Ten Rivers Food Web Local Cookoff on 5 October, 2008. We used a slightly modified version of the previously published fennel beet carrot slaw recipe. The carrots and beets came from my back yard.

The West Chester Chili Cook Off today was a great success. The crowd was in a great mood too. I'm not sure if the excitement was because they were excited to eat chili or that the Phillies were about to beat the Brewers or because me, Dr Zibbs was in their midst.

I survived the toxic fumes Friday night. After finding a parking spot six blocks from the cook-off, Tom pretty much sprinted the entire way down to the beer tent. I stumbled behind him (with my legs being a foot shorter and all…) and prepared myself for the madness.

That's right. It's time again for the West Chester Chili Cook Off. Tomorrow - Sunday, October 5. And with chili comes a certain by-product. I remember seeing Blazing Saddles when it came out at the Warner Theater in West Chester and the bean scene with the farting had everyone rolling in the aisles.
